Internet Obsessed With Rare Long-Haired Dalmatian: 'I Need Him'
Millions of dog lovers have been left stunned at an unusual variation on a well-loved dog breed.
Mira the dog took TikTok by storm with her stand-out looks after an adorable video of her gained over 1.3 million views.
In the video, the stunning long-haired Dalmatian puppy poses for the camera in a super cute 16 second clip, leaving hundreds of commenters asking where they can get their own.
Traditional Dalmatians are renowned for their short, sleek coat and distinctive black spots, but long-haired Dalmatians like the one in the TikTok video have soft, flowing and wavy coats that set them apart from the norm.
Long-haired Dalmatians are not a separate breed, but rather a variation. The long-haired gene is a recessive trait that actually violates the current American Kennel Club (AKC) Dalmatian breed standard.
Aside from a softer coat, they are the same gentle, active and intelligent dogs.
The adorable footage of Mira was shared by @spottedjewelsdalmatians on TikTok, a North Georgia-based Dalmatian breeder.
With more than 12,000 followers on TikTok they share plenty of long-haired versions of the beloved breed, including adorable puppies and standard short-haired Dalmatians.
It is no surprise that they're so popular, too. According to the AKC the Dalmatian is the 49th most popular dog breed in the U.S.
Their origins are often debated, but they have a long history with possible depictions in ancient Egyptian art. They were well-known carriage dogs and would run along horse-drawn carriages. They are also often associated with firehouses and fire trucks as they were historically used to clear the way for horses that pulled fire-fighting equipment.
In the video's caption, the poster affectionately declared, "Mira is perfection," eliciting a wave of enthusiastic responses from viewers.
Angelina exclaimed, "[I] want one so bad," while Chloe's comment passionately declared, "I need him." Countless others excitedly tagged their loved ones, inquiring, "Can we get one?" Meanwhile, another simply stated, "I want."
Shawna Matthews972 even went so far as to humorously insist, "This isn't a want, this is a need."
Dalmatians often capture attention online for their distinctive features. In June, a series of puppies melted hearts for looking like "the printer ran out of ink" when lined up together.
While last year, a rather troublesome spotted pup delighted viewers with his "puppy parkour" after jumping on top of his owner's fridge.
