Lionel Messi scored twice for Argentina in their 2-0 win vs. Peru in the World Cup qualifiers.

Messi was back in the starting eleven and scored both goals in the win. The first half saw Argentina have much of the ball but their first goal started with Nicolas Tagliafico.

It was Tagliafico who won the ball back and played a pass in to Enzo Fernandez. He found Nicolás Gonzalez and Gonzalez played it to Messi who would score his first goal of the match.

But Tagliafico and Messi were not done. Minutes later, Tagliafico would play a pass to Enzo and he passed it to Julian who dummied it to Messi and Messi would score from close range to make it 2-0 for Argentina.

Gonzalo Montiel was substituted out due to an injury and was replaced by Lucas Martinez Quarta in the first half.

Lionel Scaloni’s team were in control of the second half with Messi scoring but his goal was ruled out for offside. Germán Pezzella was brought on as a substitute for Cristian Romero.

Scaloni made three more changes with Lautaro Martínez, Marcos Acuña and Gio Lo Celso coming on for Julián Álvarez, Nicolás Tagliafico and Rodrigo De Paul.

Argentina make it 12 points out of 12 to start the World Cup qualifiers. Their next matches are against Uruguay and Brazil in November.
