Did Anyone Win the $376 Million Jackpot?
The winning numbers for the Mega Millions lottery game for December 29, offering a jackpot prize of $376 million, with a cash value option of $287 million, were revealed on Tuesday at 11 p.m. ET. There were no winners of the top jackpot prize or the second prize of $1 million.
The latest numbers drawn were 1, 31, 35, 48 and 62 for the white balls, while the yellow Mega Ball was 19 and the Megaplier was 3x.
Twenty players matched four white balls and the Mega Ball, winning them each $10,000. Three of those winners purchased the Megaplier, which earned them each $30,000.
There were 597 winners who matched four balls, which earned them each $500, with 106 players each winning the Megaplier prize of $1,500. There were 1,599 winners who matched three white balls, each winning $200, while 262 of those players each won the Megaplier prize of $600.
Last week's Mega Millions drawing on Christmas Day for a $352 million jackpot prize also saw no grand prize winners.
Three players—one each in New Hampshire, New York and Texas—matched the first five white balls, and minus the gold Mega Ball, for the game's second prize of $1 million. Had they purchased the Megaplier for an extra $1, their second prize would have been worth $2 million.
The most recent jackpot winner was a ticket sold in Wisconsin for a jackpot prize worth $120 million. The grand prize winner of the September 15 drawing marked the fifth Mega Millions jackpot won this year.
Jackpot winners last year include a $372 million ticket sold in Ohio in Mentor, a suburb of Cleveland, and a $227 million ticket sold in Texas in Cedar Park, a suburb north of Austin.
How to play Mega Millions
Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET. Five white balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 70, while one yellow Mega Ball is drawn from balls numbered 1 through 25. You win if the numbers on your lottery ticket match the numbers of the balls drawn on that date.
Mega Millions tickets cost $2 per play. If no one wins the jackpot prize, the money is added to the top prize for the following drawing.
Most states offer a Megaplier option, which costs an additional $1 per play and increases non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four or five times. Before each Mega Millions drawing on Tuesdays and Fridays, the Megaplier is drawn from a pool of 15 balls. Five of these balls are marked with 2X, six with 3X, three with 4X and one with 5X.
The odds of winning with a $2 Mega Millions ticket are one in 303 million. See the Mega Millions website for more information.
