The Simpson's Duff Beer Will Be Sold in Stores
First Springfield. Now, the world.
Homer Simpson’s beverage of choice, the famed Duff Beer, is gearing up to be sold in real life — and in a official capacity, the Wall Street Journal reports.
This won’t be the first order of Duff Beer to hit shelves: For decades, beer distributors have been producing unauthorized batches of Duff. Their Simpsons-inspired products didn’t last for long, however.
Really, it’s these unauthorized Duff distributions that prompted the show’s parent company, 20th Century Fox, to produce their own version of the cartoon classic. Because Duff Beer has never existed IRL (until now!), the company’s had trouble protecting their copyright in a few countries — but not for much longer!
Despite its relatively cheap appearance on The Simpsons, Duff’s real-life incarnation is higher-end, created by British brewmaster Paul Farnsworth. The drink is a lager with fruit flavors, caramel aromatics, and a darker golden color.
It’ll be a bit before the official Duff beer makes its way to the U.S., however. The product will make its debut in Europe and Chile, which, ironically, has where the bulk of the unauthorized Duff beers have been sold in the past.
We have a bit longer to wait for Duff to head to supermarkets stateside, but in the meantime, console yourself with a can at The Simpsons-themed spots at Universal Studios.
